Smile, it's me!In April 2009, I got the desire to go to Peru and see Machu Picchu after seeing it on the discovery channel. It was a really eye opening trip. From the poor people (really poor) living in shacks or on the street, to the few affluent people living on the outskirts of town, whether it was in Lima or in Cusco. All the people there were very nice to me, answered my questions, or found someone that could speak English and answer me. The negatives were few. Always change currency to theirs (restaurants will charge you 2 to 1 instead of 3 to 1), and never believe someone trying to sell you something (at the Lima airport I was told I couldn't buy a ticket on LAN air at a counter but had to go with him across the street to a ticket agent and buy there). I did enjoy the trip, and would go back again to hike the Inca trail this time (a 3 to 4 day trip) over the mountains to Machu Picchu.
